The Best Board Game of them All? Risk!
Forget Monopoly. That game of luck is something for children, with very little skill or strategy. It’ll go on for days, and you’ll get bored waiting between the turns. There is simply nothing to do except hope that people land on your properties, or that you get to see someone have to pay a massive fine. All you can do is gloat when something else is losing. Then there’s the classic game of Cluedo. It is of course another game of luck, largely. Of course, you need some good deduction skills in order to try to work out who is the murderer, where they did the crime, and with what weapon. But again, just lots of dice throwing with little result. Those sort of games are the oak furniture of board games. They’ll always be there, but they were long ago been replaced by something better and more modern.
A much better game is the world domination game of Risk. In Risk, you can always be thinking about your strategy. And when you are not thinking, you’re probably having to defend against an enemy attacking your troops. There’s always something going on, and the flow of the game can change very quickly, especially when someone makes a crazy decision or a really ambitious attack. And one of the best things about Risk is that they just rebooted the franchise, and released a new version of the game that allows for even more fun. So now is the ideal time for you to try it.
